Supporting Neurodivergent Minds Across Veterinary Medicine
The National Neurodivergent Veterinary Alliance (NNVA) was created to support, empower, and advocate for neurodivergent individuals across every role within veterinary medicine.
We believe the veterinary profession becomes stronger, healthier, and more compassionate when people are able to show up fully as themselves — without masking who they are in order to succeed.
We are entirely dedicated to supporting neurodivergent veterinary professionals and students. NNVA is currently operating as a registered non-profit, and we are actively awaiting the final approval of our official 501(c)(3) status as we grow.

Whether you’re neurodivergent yourself or an ally within veterinary medicine, there’s a place for you in the NNVA community.
Welcome to the Neurodivergent Veterinary Alliance (NNVA), a dedicated space created by and for neurodivergent individuals across the entire veterinary ecosystem. We are building a community where ADHD, autistic, dyslexic, dyspraxic, and otherwise neurodivergent veterinary professionals and support staff can find connection, understanding, and advocacy.
Whether you are a veterinarian, technician, assistant, customer service representative (CSR), kennel attendant, practice manager, student, or industry professional: if you work in vet med and your brain works differently, you have a home here.
Three years ago, I received a diagnosis that changed the trajectory of my life and career: ADHD.
At first, I did not realize that the very thing making certain administrative or traditional aspects of veterinary medicine challenging was actually my greatest asset. I did not know it was a superpower.
In veterinary medicine, we treat patients who cannot speak. They communicate through energy, micro-movements, and shifting patterns. I soon realized that my ADHD brain allows me to tap into my patients on a much deeper level. It grants me an intense, intuitive focus that helps me sense a patient’s subtle discomfort, read their body language instantly, and think outside the box during complex cases. Far from holding me back, embracing my neurodivergence has made me a more deeply connected practitioner and a more empathetic, adaptable team member.
But I also knew how exhausting it was to mask these traits before I understood them. I founded this network because I knew I wasn’t alone, and I knew that every single role in our field needs a space where they can stop masking and start thriving.
Why This Community is a Priority in Vet Med
The veterinary profession is facing a critical mental health and sustainability crisis. For neurodivergent individuals, the everyday realities of veterinary medicine (from the sensory overload of a ringing lobby to the unspoken social nuances of client communication and rigid clinic structures) can lead to profound, silent burnout.
Prioritizing this community is vital for the survival of our workforce:
Deeper Patient & Client Connection:
Neurodivergent brains excel at deep empathy, rapid problem-solving, and intense focus. When we support these minds, our patients and our clients receive better, more compassionate care.
Preventing Whole-Team Burnout:
By creating tailored resources, peer support networks, and sensory-friendly workplace strategies, we can help reduce the alarming rates of exhaustion across all hospital departments.
Challenging the Status Quo:
We advocate for systemic changes in how clinics are run and how veterinary medicine is taught, proving that workplace accommodations benefit the entire team, not just neurodivergent staff.
